Lybbert, Chris
Born in Ephrata, Wash., on March 14, 1954, Lybbert now makes his home in Forestburg, Texas. A Member of the PRCA since 1976, Lybbert excelled in the tie-down roping and steer wrestling, qualifying for the National Finals Rodeo eight times (1979-84, 1986, 1989) in the tie-down roping and five times in the steer wrestling (1979-80, 1982-83, 1986). He won his first world title in the all-around category in 1982 and followed that with a world title in the tie-down roping in 1986. In 1982, he was the first PRCA cowboy to earn six-figures prior to the NFR. He was also a very consistent roper and steer wrestler capturing back-to-back NFR average titles in the tie-down roping (1980-81) and the steer wrestling in 1982. He also won the California Circuit tie-down roping title four times (1978-80, 1982) and the steer wrestling title in 1979. When he started competing in the Texas Circuit, he continued to collect titles. He won the Texas Circuit tie-down roping title and also the all-around title in the circuit. Lybbert attended Hartnell College in Salinas, Calif., and Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo, Calif. He was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2006.
